We at Mt. Zion Church, a Global Methodist community, would be pleased to have you join us in worshipping our Savior and God. We are a small, multi-generational, 'casual dress' church drawing from Asbury University, Asbury Seminary, and the local population along the river and from Wilmore and Harrodsburg. The Church has a very strong mission orientation.
As the Body of Christ, we see ourselves called by God to be:
- Faithful
- The theological emphasis is on Holiness as: Graciousness, Purity, Humility, Compassion and Outreach to the Marginalized. The preaching and teaching are led by a seminary professor. Small fellowship/accountability groups are being formed in the fall -- one or more can readily be organized with University and/or Seminary students.
- In Mission
- As no one has received a salary over the past 25 years and the congregation has owned the building outright for more than 175 years, we are free to give most of our money to missions. We have supported large numbers (thousands) of children orphaned by AIDS in rural Zimbabwe (our former co-pastor now works on the Florida campus of the Asbury Theological Seminary; he is from sub-Saharan Africa). More recently (the past seven years), we have sent teams to Honduras. Recently, we helped fund a dengue fever response. A large number of the University and Seminary graduates who have attended Mt. Zion have gone into ministry overseas or domestically with connections to the Global Church.
- Involved in Stewardship
- Our gifts and talents are broad with a lot of experiences. We believe in giving to the ministries of the church as an aspect of Christian responsibility. We do not formally take a collection during the worship service, but the collection plate is at the back of the church for any freewill offerring.
- Another act of stewardship is evident in the drive through the Palisades on U.S. 68 from the Jessamine/Mercer county line at the Kentucky River toward Shaker Village. Many of our congregation work three times per year to keep the highway clean. And in the past, and hopefully in the future, we have participated and will participate in the Kentucky River and Dix River clean-up, traveling by canoe.
- Pursuing Spiritual Growth
- We meet together on Wednesday evening for Bible Study and share a meal. Following the Bible Study, we share joys and concerns and agree to pray for each other through the week. We also support college-based fellowship groups and small accountability groups.
- Special Fellowship
- hayride and hotdog cookout in October
- traditional shapenote sing in early December with people coming from all over Kentucky and beyond
- Honduras Mission Trip in February
- Maundy Thursday Passover/Good Friday Event/Easter Sunrise in early April
- Weekly Believer's Communion
- We have a communion service for those who wish to partake at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, followed by refreshments and worship service.
We encourage you to spiritually enjoy the many wonderful churches throughout this area and focus with one. Become an active part of whichever fellowship of believers to which you feel called. If you find that God has led you back to Mt. Zion, whether for a regular visit or to make it a spiritual home while you are here, we will pray for God to use you to bless others, that you will eagerly pursue knowing God more intimately through prayer, worship, and study, and that you may get actively involved in expanding Christ's Kingdom wherever He leads you!
We pray God's richest blessings for you! Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can be of any help while you are here at this meeting point of Jessamine, Woodford, and Mercer counties.
